Tom, I’d like to take your workshop on managing digital photos but, unfortunately, I’ll be out of town until the 20th of October so will miss the next one. Will you be running repeats of the course at another date? Any other suggestions? DICK

OK Paul! For merge visible you ‘ve got everything right except that after creating and selecting the new layer, hold down the option (alt) key and select merge visible layers option. Using the option (alt) key will leave the current visible layers in tact. Unsharp masking is the sharpening filter of choice in Photoshop. Overall image sharpening is the last step before printing. Start with radius values between 0.9-1.1, threshhold between 0-3, and amount 40%-80%.

It was a great seminar and I hope you do a more advanced one (I’d like to see more about how to use some of the other tools like sharpen/smudge/dodge/burn, etc)
I didn’t catch couple of the things you rushed through at the end.
One of them is the “merge visible” - it seems to me that you made a new layer that had everything merged in, but when I did it it got rid of all my layers and merged them all down to the background layer.
The other was using an unsharp mask when printing.
Could you post instructions on how to do both of those things?

Liz thanks for also for your interest… Lets do this… Let me get through the DigPhoto I, II, III workshops which will end on 9/24. I will see if I can get a couple of grads from this series to participate. If so I will set up a topic list for all to review and if the feedback is positive I will set up a workshop for October…

Do you have any plans to do a more advanced course? I already know how to take pictures and put them on my image gallery or whatever, but I’d like to take better pictures and learn how to do more advanced manipulation in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
